Larry Lilly's Journal "Prayer May Change Everything" Vol 19-Issue 10

“More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of; therefore let thy voice rise like a fountain for day and night.” Alfred Lord Tennyson
Luke 18:1 “Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart,”
Encouragement to Pray.
James 5:13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms.
14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.
3John 1:2 Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.
Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
Hinderances to Prayer.
Wrong Attitude:
James 4:3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.” (I read that children had asked their mother for a Tarantula and were upset because she said NO)!
Not knowing The Word.
You must grasp God’s word to know God’s will. By searching God’s Word, you will learn if your request is contrary to His Word. I have discovered that often a prayer is out of line.
Lack of Persistence:
Daniel 10:1-13 In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a message was revealed to Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar. The message was true, but the appointed time was long; and he understood the message, and had understanding of the vision.
2 In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks.
3 I ate no pleasant food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.
4 Now on the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, that is, the Tigris,
5 I lifted my eyes and looked, and behold, a certain man clothed in linen, whose waist was girded with gold of Uphaz!
6 His body was like beryl, his face like the appearance of lightning, his eyes like torches of fire, his arms and feet like burnished bronze in color, and the sound of his words like the voice of a multitude.
7 And I, Daniel, alone saw the vision, for the men who were with me did not see the vision; but a great terror fell upon them, so that they fled to hide themselves.
8 Therefore I was left alone when I saw this great vision, and no strength remained in me; for my vigor was turned to frailty in me, and I retained no strength.
9 Yet I heard the sound of his words; and while I heard the sound of his words I was in a deep sleep on my face, with my face to the ground.
10 Suddenly, a hand touched me, which made me tremble on my knees and on the palms of my hands.
11 And he said to me, "O Daniel, man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak to you, and stand upright, for I have now been sent to you." While he was speaking this word to me, I stood trembling.
12 Then he said to me, "Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words.
13 "But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia.
Daniel prayed for 21 days and the prayer was hindered by the Prince of Persia (Iran). Daniel is assured that heaven heard his prayer the first day, but implementation was hindered by evil for three weeks. One reason why Jesus said we must, must pray without losing heart! (Check unjust Judge Luke 18:1-8).
Improper Relationships may Hinder Prayers.
This includes fantasy ideas, emotional ties that clearly are not in line with God’s word. Keep in mind the old saying from Jonathan Edwards, “The ideas and images in men’s minds are the invisible forces that control them.”
Psalm 66:18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, The Lord will not hear.
Bad Blood Within the Family of God.
1John 4:20 If someone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?
Colossians 3:13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.
Bad Blood Between Husband and Wife.
1Peter 3:7 Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.
Unforgiving Spirit:
Ephesians 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. 32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave you.
Luke 23:34 Then Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do."
In a devotional, now out of print, Elaine Martins and Kathy Escobar stated:
“The Bible is clear about the fact that God actively pursues a personal relationship with His children. He delights in you and desires to bring restoration to the painful places in your life. He offers Himself as a refuge from fear and anxiety. He holds out his His strength to those who are weak, and He longs to mourn with those who are broken. He is here for you, anytime you come. He is gently calling, “Come with Me.” Our Daily Bread.
Prepare:
Place. Hopefully a Quiet Place. Turn off TV ETC. Or Learn to “tune out” distractions.
Attitude. Use/read verses on Prayer. Read a few poems, hymns about prayer. Remember some prayers God has answered.
Ask. Share the things on your heart that you feel, need, name loved ones and their need. Be honest about your personal needs. Be careful about with whom you share “personal needs.”
Listen. God eventually speaks. LML.

Life Changing Prayers: How God Displays His Power to Ordinary People. Michael Youssef, Baker Books
Dr. Youssef has written a page-turner that will also warm your heart as you read. Seven ordinary run of the mill men and women are famous at least to Bible readers. Dr. Youssef graphically shows how each became famous via prayer.
Since the beginning of time, God has used ordinary people to achieve mighty things. People of prayer, which can be anyone who makes up their mind to engage in fervent prayer. The author outlines the prayer of each chapter, thus teaching us that God is not all that interested in the style, but the intensity of the prayer. We get insight from Paul concerning pouring out our heart to our Heavenly Father.
Romans 8:25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.
26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. (NKJV).
I found the prayer of Jonah fascinating as Dr. Youssef wielded his artful pen on the story of the reluctant prophet. Pastor Youssef shifts gears and has gentle, but a fresh take on the humble, youthful prayer of Mary!
Larry sprinted his way through this book nearly setting the pages afire as he grasped the uniqueness’ of the text throughout Life-Changing Prayers. Get the book. JDL TgB.

Isaiah 54:11-13
"O you afflicted one, Tossed with tempest, and not comforted, Behold, I will
lay your stones with colorful gems, And lay your foundations with sapphires.
I will make your pinnacles of rubies, Your gates of crystal, And all your walls of precious stones. All your children shall be taught by the LORD,
And great shall be the peace of your children.”
There are some experiences that come into our lives that never defeat us, but they do change us. Some of those experiences alter us completely, just as Jacob’s wrestling match with God (Gen. 32:24-32). You no doubt reason with yourself, that surely after 30 years there is no more grief or sorrow; you are wrong.
The death of our son altered our lives and changed our perspectives of ministering. Have we learned to live with it? Yes, and we have found it a source of ministry to other hurting hearts.
Victory is found by not looking inward at our hurt but looking up to our Great Comforter and then looking around at others who hurt. What a great comfort and strength is our Savior. It will be worth it all when we see Christ.
God is the refuge of His saints,
When storms of sharp distress invade;
Behold Him present with His aid.
Let mountains from their seats be hurled
Down to the deep, and buried there,
Convulsions shake the solid world-
Our faith shall never yield to fear.
(Sir Isaac Watts 1719)

Here's a pic of the cover of my new booklet Joyce reviewed in the September issue of the Journal. The cover is great and the text is tremendous.
You may have a free copy of this helpful booklet by asking for it! A freewill offering will be deeply appreciated as it will help with the cost of printing and mailing to many who have no way of giving an offering. Thank you for at least praying for this work. Send requests and comments to:

Here's a good note about About Amazing Grace:
I read your great book, and here are my comments about it.
“All of the Bible is God’s word, but some parts stand our like mountains above the plains. Bro. Larry Lilly took one of those mountains (2 Peter 1.5-8) and added depth, understanding, and luster to an already beautiful picture of mature Christianity. Anyone applying these verses to his life will find himself rejoicing in the richness of God’s spiritual wealth.”
Let me quote R.G Lee when he was preaching in Highland Park Baptist Church and said publically to Pastor Lee Roberson, “Let’s me and you get together and we’ll give the devil the devil.”
