In my observation of modern history of wars, business and life in general, one quality stands out about those who succeed and those who, well, you know.
In just about any endeavor, the higher the chance for failure, the higher the reward for success! Now you know.
A few days ago I read of a man who set the world ahead by least two generations with his idea that he pulled down from the realm of “castles in the air” and made into a helpful reality. His invention was actually an improvement over a much earlier invention. His twist was a boon to the military, police work and industry and caught on in exponential numbers with the public around the world.
The twist? The Polaroid Camera! This twist on photography in its day was the equivalent of the modern Apple phone. Edwin Land was the co-founder of the Polaroid Corporation.
Mr. Land passed in 1991. Prior to this he wrote:
“An essential aspect of creativity is not being afraid to fail.” Edwin Land.
Due to my letters being of a religious bent, people ask, “What’s this got to do with my faith?”
Actually the quote does far more than may meet your mind at first glance. Faith has some essentials. Discovering creative ways to present the truth of Christ demands the same kind of courage displayed by Jesus. This kind of courage must be strong enough to overcome the “frown of the brethren.”
Perhaps I can make overcoming the fear of failure a little more applicable by asking, are you afraid to pray in public? How about reading the scripture from the pulpit? And the real deal killer, are you fearfully hesitant to witness, to tell someone of the wonders of the love of Christ?
It’s a safe bet that the vast majority of Christians who attend church fairly regularly never hand out a tract. You do know what a tract is? Churches, even Bible Colleges, spend vast amounts of time and money teaching Christians how to overcome the fear of witnessing about the faith of the Son of God who loved them and gave Himself for them.
The younger generation seems to avoid marriage and the number one reason is listed as “fear of failure.” From where I sit they have good reason to fear!
Moses feared failing at public speaking so much that he asked for an assistant to take on the responsibility! Yet, once Moses got going he out spoke the entire world of his time.
