Will Rogers on Wasted Time

LLLV17 7-6-20 Will Rogers on Wasted Time

As the old clock ticks off the minutes and the calendar the days of my life, time has become precious to me. I have learned that ruminating is not a waste of time, if I ruminate correctly. Three things I have been learning about correct use of time:

  • “A person that does not value your time will not value your advice.”
              Orrin Woodward.
The time listening to how great others are is really a waste, for if they were all that great they would not have to waste time bragging on yesterday, but would be using today for even greater wonders!

  • “One of the very worst uses of time is to do something very well that need not to be done at all.” Brian Tracy.
Being somewhat of a perfectionist, I do wish I had the time wasted over the course of life, on many frivolous activities that didn’t need to be done at all, yet doing them well. The time spent worrying on how my hair looked, in my dotage is not much to worry about! Some years ago, the wavy pride of my youth, waved good bye!

  • “Don't let yesterday use up too much of today.” Will Rogers.
Rogers being one of my favorite people, (Cherokee) seemed to effectively use his many talents to bring cheer to his following. He hit the nail on the head by nailing one of the greatest wastes of time, yours and mine for pining away about the miserable failings of yesterday will not change the reality that most of that time was wasted. Learn from the failing, set firmly in your heart to do better next time, and prohibit the phrase “if only” from your thoughts and vocabulary. Replace the defeatist phrase “if only” with “next time” and move on with living the abundant life!

Mike Pyatt, in his great piece, Belong to Yesterday, noted: “Evangelicals attest to the truth that Jesus has relocated millions from Regretville to Peaceful Valley.” It’s true, Jesus Christ clearly taught:

Luke 9:62 But Jesus said to him, "No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God."

Make today Count!
