A Short Time With Larry 4-2-2020 Wilberforce
A famous clergyman, who had been a trader in slaves, and who had once been the white slave of an African Queen, said to a young politician:
“The Lord has raised you up to the good of His church and for the good of the nation.”
The young politico heeded the blessing, and twenty years later, on his deathbed, heard the news that his labor was not in vain.
Slavery had been banned in the British Empire!
William Wilberforce uttered his final words in a whisper at the news:
“Thank God that I lived to witness a day in which England was willing to give twenty millions sterling for the abolition of slavery.”
Earlier in his life Wilberforce responded to the gigantic slave trade much as the young shepherd boy, David, responded to the ridiculing Goliath, rallying others with the question:
Is there not a cause?
Such a challenge is before the children of God in this dark time.
Will you stand boldly for Jesus? Make today count
