LLLV18 6-14-2018 What Determines Happiness: A Satisfied Mind
My darling daughter Dawn shouted over the phone speaker this altruism, to which the Great Blonde, returned with the opposite truism. Note:
Dawn: Riches and Prestige do not make you happy!
TGB: On the other hand, neither does Poverty and Obscurity!
The conversation centered around the tragic suicide of a famous designer of female attire and accessories. I have never heard of the designer but had remarked earlier that such a death is sad no matter the notoriety of the person.
A strange phenomenon in our culture is the mistaken idea of the poor that riches will bring happiness. The reverse is correct in that many a billionaire dreams of a life free of the clutter of the big time.
Happiness or better, peace of mind, inner tranquility, is a state that most, if not all humans desire. The same group who for the most part mistakenly think that if they were in the opposite group, voila, happiness by the boatload.
When I was still in puberty, a song hit the charts. Here’s a line from the song:
“Once I was wealthy, had fortune and fame. Suddenly it happened I lost every dime. But one thing’s for certain when it comes my time I’ll leave this old world with a satisfied mind.”
"A Satisfied Mind" is a song written by Joe "Red" Hayes and Jack Rhodes. Hayes explained the origin of the song in an interview: "The song came from my mother. Everything in the song is things I heard her say over the years. I put a lot of thought into the song before I came up with the title. One day my father-in-law asked me who I thought the richest man in the world was, and I mentioned some names. He said, 'You're wrong; it is the man with a satisfied mind.'" 1 Note
Jack’s father in law showed tremendous insight.
The truth of inner peace emanating from inner satisfaction is as old as the Bible. Jesus covered in this passage Matthew 6:25-33 with emphasis on Verse 33:
"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
