“There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do if I could reverse that day.” Have you ever said or thought something like the above? I know I have. The above is a direct quote from a condemned man on Indiana’s Death Row. The crime was heinous and he admits to it.
The crime itself when registered fully in the conscious mind brings remorse, even repentance. In 0thers, some sort of revulsion is a result of the consequences. In any case, it is possible for a person who is on Death Row, or has been, to actually become right with God through faith in Christ. The photo accompanying today’s article is the image of the classes Darrell Case and I teach at a prison.
Each of the men in the photo, though there are currently over 100 who have received the Certificate of Achievement, will say with a misty look in their eye, “If only I could roll back the clock.” The men in the photo know truth of Romans 5:6, "For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly."
Because of reality of the change that’s wrought by the touch of Christ, they not only can, but are blooming where they are planted.
The men are part of a small army of Christian Soldiers who will, in time, be rotated to different prisons and because of their training, and because Jesus lives in their hearts, they will be effective witnesses for Christ.
