I just finished reading Thor Jenson’s thumbnail of a book which supposedly gives insight into our times. It’s a fiction novel, so it’s all the more amazing. It’s set in 2010 and describes America as plagued with random acts of violence including school shootings, terrorist attacks, and a big push on electric powered cars. Detroit is an abandoned wasteland with a new style of music. Young men and women are forsaking marriage in favor of short term, low or no commitment hookups. Hard to believe this book is fiction, especially when the writer has the nerve to name the President on the United States, President Obomi!!
But fiction it is. Science Fiction. Written back in 1969 by John Brunner. The title: Stand On Zanzibar.
Here’s a copy of Jenson’s review:
“John Brunner’s Stand On Zanzibar is widely recognized as the most prophetic science fiction novel ever. Published in 1969, it posits a future America of 2010 that sounds eerily similar to the one we live in now. Under the leadership of President Obomi, the United States is plagued by random acts of violence including school shootings, as well as terrorist attacks. Cars are powered by rechargeable electric fuel cells, Detroit is an abandoned wasteland with a new style of electronic music. And young men and women are eschewing marriage for short-term, low commitment hookups. It’s quite the startling read.”
President Obama’s birthday is August 4, 1961, so he was about 8-9 years of age when the book was written. How true the old saw, “Truth is stranger than fiction.”
I am certain when the new light on Stand On Zanzibar makes the rounds, conspiracy theories will run rampant. Perhaps they are already making the rounds. Or they may have already done this, as I am often years behind the news. Did conspirators actually have control of Barry Soetoro when he was 8 years of age? Has he been programed from infancy for this time? Is he an alien from another planet wrapped in human flesh?
Thor Jenson had a collection of strange Sci-Fi books on which he did what I call thumbnails and I will comment on them in time. But this one on President Obomi is really out there. 45 years ago a Sci-Fi writer called the shots 45 years into the future. Is this luck or insidious long term conspiracy? It reads much like George Orwell’s (Eric Blair) 1984. To be sure the revelations from the NSA are Orwellian to the max.
As Ken Ham would say, “You know, there is a book out there.” Ken, of course, means the Bible of which it is often said, “Is as up to date as tomorrow morning’s newspaper.” Actually the Bible is more accurate than today’s or tomorrow’s newspaper.
Thousands of years ago the Bible, via the vehicle of prophecy, told of God’s coming plan for our world, it’s prosperity and then enslavement to our belly, or lusts if you will and the ultimate enslavement of millions upon millions to a world ruler who would be noted as lawless, having no concern for the desire of women, a phrase with a double meaning:
A. No serious acknowledgment of Christ as Master, no belief that Christ is the age long desire of women from Eve on to bring forth the Messiah.
B. No place for the proper place of women as the nurturer of the Human family, who would exalt himself above the most high God and become the nemesis of civilization by being Rex Lex, meaning, he the king, world figure etc., is the law and the law is subservient to his will. This attitude will be the mark of such a man and his followers. Of course the Bible teaches that after wrecking havoc on a people who knowingly and willingly set the Lord aside, Christ will put an end to him and his outlaw followers.
As I check the news sites on the old computer, I take heart in recognizing that many of the events of our day may not be the ones prophesied in scripture, but they are types of the events yet to come. I do not know, I don’t think anyone really does, but I know that ours or some generation will experience the real deal.
In times like these we must be people of prayer, of courage and of stedfastness, meaning we stay on course no matter which way the wind blows. We do as we are told in Proverbs 23:23, “Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.”
God’s truth is eternal, therefore unchanging. We must hold dearly to the truth about God, about life and about true authority coming from the heart of God.
