A longtime friend, Tom Gentry, called me after just finishing his weekly jaunt at a local nursing home. He is a fugitive from such places, as am I. He is thankful to be ministering in the home instead of being ministered to. He tenderly refers to the nursing home as “God’s Waiting Room.” We both chuckled, because we know just how fitting the moniker happens to be.
God’s Waiting Room is filled with dear humans who suffer the gamut of human frailties, physical, emotional and mental.
Tom and I both enjoy outstanding health, not just for our age, but for any age. I personally take great pleasure in being able to outrun most people who dare to call me “old.” Just the other day I outran a 73-year-old youngster!
To those of you my dear readers who still have some health and a few faculties remaining, please refuse to “give up” due to a few gray hairs. I would give a fortune for a few gray hairs, instead of a Sahara like expanse of skin between two small sides of hair.
Opportunity abounds for some of us “old buzzards” to make major contributions to a higher quality of life that would benefit the “Young Whipper Snappers” once we leave God’s Waiting Room. Here’s one man’s contribution you may enjoy. Kentucky Fried Chicken, was founded after the 65th birthday of Colonel Harland Sanders! I hoped for something kindred when I turned 65, but I am still waiting a decade later. But, you never know…
Take note of what this grand contributor had to say, when he was in God’s Waiting Room:
“Age is opportunity no less than youth itself.” Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
Notice Paul’s appeal to age when he was going to bat for Onesimus, his convert while Paul was serving in prison:
Philemon 1:9 “yet for love's sake I rather appeal to you --being such a one as Paul, the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ…”
