In the times in which we live, we really must find ways to man up to reality, to get our thumb out of our mouth and with courage from the Lord stand strong for the Lord Jesus.
I have shelves full of books with positive, biblically correct statements, though many of them are not verses of Scripture. The ones I use are in tune with the truth of scripture.
Here’s one I have used several times recently:
“Obstacles cannot crush me; every obstacle yields to stern resolve.” Leonardo Da Vinci.
A week or so ago a man who really loves Jesus sat down with me and we laid out a plan for his ministry. He committed to the plan and seemingly out of nowhere doors began to swing open, a light along the path he believes Christ wants him to journey. I have long been amazed at how when the mind is made up, focused and prayed up, good things start happening. Da Vinci had it right when he used the term, stern resolve.
Knowing the Bible with understanding, can be a deep mine full of rich sources of energy. For years I have camped out on this in Romans 8:37,
“Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.”
The word Conquerors is considered a strong word, meaning to subdue to unconditional surrender. Paul had compiled a rather long list of woes that come against the children of the lord, several of them being more than a hang nail as being slaughtered is listed and later in the Corinthian letter Paul laughs at even death with, “O death where is they sting?”
As the world about us hurls threats of loss, of former prestige, money, beheading, God throws Conquerors at us to put courage into our heart and bones. A.T. Robertson says the word for conquerors in GK is hupernikomen. Based on the power of this word, “More than a conqueror.” A man who worked with me for years was so educated as to be near worthless in practical things, shared his personal translation of the verse, “No matter what life throws at me, I am arrogantly invincible because Jesus Christ loves me!”
Being nearly always in a state where I could use a little humility, I admit to loving the professors take on the verse and arrogantly invincible really winds my clock! If you cannot find and use stern resolve in Romans 8:37, I wonder about you.
