Since believing in Jesus Christ 51 years ago, I have watched, often in wonder, at the way ideas, methods, and people change. Even religious corporations change. Some change is good, but truth never actually changes. To be honest, most change doesn’t matter a lick. On the other hand, some things that are part and parcel of scriptural make up must not change.
Annette Kellerman was arrested at Revere Beach, Massachusetts, for indecent exposure. According to the record, Kellerman, from New South Wales, is famous for being the first woman to attempt to swim the English Channel and also the originator of synchronized swimming.
When you factor in that Annette wore leg braces during her childhood, you have the makings of a courageous heroine.
The photo accompanying this piece demonstrates that Annette was wearing a forerunner of Elizabeth Taylor’s famous Bikini swimwear. For this she was arrested for indecent exposure in 1907.
So far this piece has focused on fashion. Fashion is as stable as water and I think that may be good, at least for the folks who make fashionable clothing. I heard a country preacher say, “These folks get all hepped up about whatcha wear, when the truth is nobody wears what Jesus wore.” Fashion changes.
One of the wonderful things about Jesus is that, being perfect, He does not change with every whimsy.
Hebrews 13:8, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.”
