Years ago I heard Dr. Jack Hudson tell about a man who worked a regular job and as soon as he went home and gulped down supper he went over to the gas station. He did not work at the station, he just hung out there. His marriage was a shambles; his children were wilting due to his absence from the home. One day the preacher asked,
“You gotta a hang up on gas pumps?”
The question set the man to thinking. He knew he was unhappy at home. He also knew his wife meant it when she said, “Honey Babe, you enjoy yerself, cause this Momma’s about get shed o here.”
The man talked with Jack the next time he filled up. In a little while he trusted Jesus and in a little more time he and the Mrs. worked things out. The man with the hang up on gas pumps learned the truth of a saying I read on Facebook the other day;
“Proof of love is the investment of time.”
As much as he loved gas pumps he realized he loved his wife and kids more and he began to show this love by investing time in the family.
We show our love for Jesus, not in simple busy but in time spent with Jesus. There is more to loving Jesus than mere doing, but spending serious time talking with Him, tuning in to scripture.
