A recent cartoon, The Lockhorns showed Mr. Lockhorn rushing in the doorway, grumbling to Mrs. Lockhorn,
“Today's bad mood is brought to you by my job!”
Having watched the continuing saga of the Lockhorns for years, I often use their misery to attempt to help others who share their misery. We all know misery loves company and my list of men and women who hate their job is longer than my extensive emailing list!
If you don’t like your job, it’s not your spouses’ fault! You have to own the why you don’t care all that much for the effort you put forth that provides a roof over your head and bread for your belly.
One long-standing rule of a happier marriage is to form the habit of leaving work at work. There’s not much your wife or husband can do about it. Mrs. Lockhorn is textbook 101, and she clearly could care less about Mr. Lockhorn’s trials at the workplace. Knowing Lockhorn types, it’s doubtful if either Mr. or Mrs. Lockhorn will ever discover happiness, let alone joy.
How about you? Here’s a starter plan for God’s Word:
1Corinthians 10:31 in part; “Whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
When labor is considered a ministry entrusted to you by Christ, it becomes easier to do it as God’s way of making provision for your physical needs, so do it with gusto!
