LLLV18 3-15-2018 Stepping Toward Your Goal is Essential
Most people have some form of hoping to grasp the brass ring, an old saying related to Merry Go Rounds, which gave hope of winning a prize if you could catch a brass ring that appeared to be within reach. I have never heard of anyone catching the ring!
So, how do I make progress toward my goals, my dreams?
First, what do you want? Most people really have no idea, just a mish-mash of half formed daydreams. So, settle in your mind and heart the exact “what,” and do one simple thing, an action shared with me by an old friend. Here’s the secret:
"Sometimes the smallest step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life. Tip toe if you must but take the step." Anonymous.
If, upon thinking through the many aspects of your dream, you hear; “No one has ever done this.” Take this statement as a good reason for you to try. Keep in mind that “new” endeavors often require many failed steps along the way. Our Space Program is a good example of trying, failing, discovering the “why” of the failure, adjusting and trying again. And then again. It seems like a lot of trial and error, and it is, but we put men on the space station. Now coming is Hyper Sonic air travel for business passengers’.
With a few exceptions researchers have found it takes around twenty years to become an overnight sensation in just about any field. You may be the exception, but if not, you still have the inner satisfaction of following your start.
In listening to numerous speakers, pastors, evangelists, etc. over the years, the picture of their initial dream comes front and center. I wanted to be the next (put a name here). I wanted to build the… You get the idea. A fellow pastor told me just the other day, “Larry, forty years ago I started with the dream of building a church with 40,000 members. I now realize that the Lord hasn’t gifted me with that kind of power. But I have enjoyed the trip. I have been used to help a few men and women along the way, and my living has not been in vain. Plus, I have been involved in the work I love.”

Philippians 3:14 “I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
