States Shameless Dependence on Christian Religion

As an old friend, at my age most friends are old even if recent, and I talked he asked, “What has happened to our country, the one you and I knew as kids?”

We were not Christian when in Elementary School or High School. We remember our first grade teacher, Mrs. Smith, teaching us to thank God for our food and a few other prayers. I don’t remember much about our 2nd grade teacher, Miss Abrams as she was so pretty I couldn’t think when she was in the room. Then Mrs. Davis took over in the third grade, teaching declamation, the 23rd Psalm, different biblical passages which we had to memorize with each kid taking a turn reading  short passages of scripture each morning.

All this in the Cecil County Public Schools.

Can you imagine such in our current world? Not unless you’re my age and went to an unusual public school. Consider this from state of New York's Legislature stated in 1838:

"Our Government depends for its being on the virtue of the people, - on that virtue that has its foundation in the morality of the Christian religion; and that religion is the common and prevailing faith of the people."

Psalms 127:1 “Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.”

Was New York on to something? Could be.

And it's not wonder. Robert Charles Winthrop said: Men, in a word, must necessarily be controlled either by a power within them or by a power without them; either by the word of God or by the strong arm of man; either by the Bible or by the bayonet. … The highest glory of the American Revolution was this: It connected in one indissoluble bond the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity

And from John Adams, "... we have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."

The government cited in the article obviously knew that for a government to succeed with with less than totalitarian power it would need the old nature of man replaced by the new nature of born again Christians.

And that, of course, show that the surest way to switch to totalitarian power is to eliminate Christianity.
