Though I haven’t heard anyone sing the song “He” for years, I still recall the song and often listen to it in my mind over and again. The second stanza is a special blessing to me.
He still finds the time to hear a child's first prayer
Saint or sinner calls and always finds him there
Though it makes him sad to see the way we live
He'll always say "I forgive"
Richard Mullen
The Bible teaches accepting and giving forgiveness. An often overlooked truth about forgiveness is the important part of accepting forgiveness from God through Christ as a gift that cannot be earned or paid back. Because we have been freely forgiven by Him, we are to in turn freely forgive others. Giving Christ type forgiveness is rarer than Shakespeare’s jewel.
Billy Graham commented:
“Almost every week someone writes me saying, ‘I can’t forgive. You don’t know how deeply I’ve been hurt.’ Nothing releases us from the past or opens the door to reconciliation as completely as forgiveness.”
Paul puts it this way in Romans 3:24, “Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:”
Jesus said, Matthew 10:8, “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.” He implies that it may be easier to raise the dead than to forgive. Both require an act of God.
