Being a historian of sorts, I hold back a chuckle and wish the newborn royalty well. Whenever I hear, “Royal Highness,” I hold back from expressing the term used by Shirley Temple long ago.
At the same time, I am calling others to help while preparing my heart and mind for this coming Saturday. This Saturday will mark the Life Celebration of a dear friend. Morgan Johnson, 27 years old, disappeared one night two years and two months ago. His car and body were found last Friday in a retention pool near Indianapolis.
Morgan came to maturity in our little church, joined the Navy, and was later discharged for medical reasons which at the last may have played a part in his accidental death. He bore his pain with élan. He briefly served as youth leader in our church. I served as his mentor, pastor and close friend.
Millions awaited the birth of royalty. A humble number probably fitting into our small auditorium will mourn Morgan. We will celebrate his short life.
The Prince and my departed friend are common in one truth, among many; In Adam all die. According to his testimony Morgan was ready. I pray for the royal son to come to trust Jesus with the same certainty.
