LLLV17 12-7-2017 Reconciling Pearl Harbor and Christmas
The month of December is usually swamped with stories, mostly “Sweet Syrupy” ones about bells ringing, trees shinning and flying reindeer among other things. The religious side features enough stable scenes to turn the populace against farmers, and sermons, according to unwritten law, must be about the Babe in the manger.
So, the December shortly after my entrance onto the world scene this headline flashed to the known world:
Dec. 7, 1941 | Japan Attacks Pearl Harbor!
President Roosevelt stated December 7, 1941 was a day that would live in infamy. You know the rest of the story.
Many wonder just how do we reconcile December 25th with December 7th?
The best way that I know of is to accept what Jesus said about War and rumors thereof:
Matthew 24:6 "And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.”
The events that we do our best to see as aberrations are really the norm for this age. The pages of scripture overflow with information about the intense evil of the human heart applying this evil bent to the inevitable tribes of earth warring against each other. If you can and do read, or listen to any news cast, the civilized world is again on the brink, perhaps the very eve, of war of nuclear proportions with a megalomaniac controlled nation. Such is the norm, until Jesus comes, not as a Babe wrapped in rags, but in the garb of the Ultimate Victorious Warrior/Savior and the vanquished tribes of earth gather down by the riverside, beat our weapons into plowshares and study war no more for a thousand years.
In the meantime, the message from the Celestial City is simple,
Acts 16:31, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household." (NKJV).
