When I was young I read many books, the power and full meaning of which I did not fully grasp. I did enjoy what I could grasp from such writers as Shakespeare and Geoffrey Chaucer. I recall one line, attributed to him, and thinking this sounds like what I heard an old beer hall philosopher state, “Strike while the iron is hot.” This was alluding to a principle employed by Blacksmiths, and in this case shaping horseshoes. Chaucer’s line was clear and it is as true today as it was way back then:
“Time and tide wait for no man.” Geoffrey Chaucer.
The fact is in life when opportunity knocks it is a trait of the wise to answer the knock, to get with it, because it is not likely opportunity will wait a while for whom it is knocking procrastinates. I am blessed to know a large number of men and women who responded wisely and energetically to their opportunity and are extremely happy for doing so.
A modern business tycoon made a statement about the mental attitude we must have after initial success in any undertaking. I assure you that if you fail, after seizing opportunity, to implement the wisdom in the line from one of the most successful in modern times, you will go down in flames:
“Nothing recedes like success. Don't let it happen.” Ray Kroc.
Opportunity in any field, be it merchandise, manufacturing, sales, or the field in which I have invested my life, a laborer in the vineyard of Christ, will fade, will recede into ashes without an implementation of new and better ideas as they are revealed.
It is true that truth is timeless. Yet I know many men and women who know the truth, and love it while proclaiming it with gusto. Yet, their life, their efforts are stagnant. When this happens, especially in the religious field, comfort is found in the imbecilic thought, “Well, they (meaning anyone who is being blessed), must be compromising, else they would be as mired down as I am.”
In case you are really young or have forgotten, Ray Kroc was the founder and genius behind the hamburger empire, McDonalds. In later years his widow, Georgia, donated one billion dollars to the Salvation Army!
The Kroc family was obviously of a generous bent. But Mr. Kroc understood the importance of refusing to permit his business to recede due to apathy. He stayed on top of the latest technology to make his product better and get it out the window fast!
Life is a lot like a McDonald’s operation. Seek wisdom from Jesus, hang around with Him, and be on the alert to discover exciting ways to be more like Him while accepting the challenges He sends our way. We must do this with gusto!
Learn this from Paul: “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:” Philippians 2:5.
The following verses share the principle of majoring on improving your service. Ray Kroc knew this and so should you as you walk along with the ultimate servant, Jesus Christ.
