A friend, at least for now, asked me why so many Christians seem so hung up on the Constitution of The United States. I pondered this for what seemed an eternity and finally after three nano seconds answered his probing question.
Part of any sensible answer has to do with the nature of our Republic, often referred to in error as a Democracy. In our Republic we do not elect leaders, we elect men/women to represent us as though we are there. That they are elected by majority means simply that our Representative is to express the will of the majority with his/her vote. This is not rocket science, but I am amazed how otherwise intelligent people skewer this fact.
The above background is essential to the understanding of another oft stated principle loosely stated as “People get the kind of government they deserve.” Having read and studied the Bible for over fifty years I must agree.
I do not recall an election in my lifetime where the man promising the biggest chicken in each pot failed to be elected. Principle, history and biblical truth is thrown out the window and the purse wins. I like a statement by an early president:
“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." John Adams October 11, 1798
Proverbs 14:34 “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.”
