On this day 48 years ago the Great Blonde and I set sail on the often turbulent Sea of Matrimony. The ceremony was scheduled for 4:00 in the afternoon, but took place a bit later. I want to make 50 so I will not venture reasons.
Joyce and I went together for a bit over 3 years and we were convinced that our mothers did not know what they were talking about. We would make it.
I think some of the people standing on the steps of the First Baptist Church of Elkton were actually taking bets concerning the expected duration of our marriage. That our marriage has endured 48 years sometime after 4:00 today cost a lot of people money and add to this our children started coming along some 4 years after the ceremony another fortune was lost by some bystanders. PTL.
Though Joyce was still a teen when we married she already knew how to fight dirty and though I am older, I have never won a marital battle. I envy some of the braggarts I have heard tell of their victories, but such has eluded me.
Edgar Watson Howe wrote: "Some women marry for love, some for money, and some for a home. It is not known why men marry."
Proverbs 18:22 "Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD." This is a good reason.
Years after Michelle Aguilar's father and mother went through a bitter divorce she was able to say, "I knew that if God could forgive me, I could do the same. I knew I could forgive my mom. A huge burden was lifted off of me."
My book, Outrageous Forgiveness In 30 Days deals with similar situations and my stories may help you to freely give forgiveness to someone who does not deserve it.
