6-17-13 On Moving Mountains
I often wonder just what Jesus meant when He taught the secret of mustard seed faith. Oh, yes, I have heard/read a mountain of sermons and ideas on the subject, but I still wonder. I have a handle on some of the truth, but I’m sure there is a mountain of truth to learn. I grasp the reality that even a tiny bit of faith is more powerful than we dare think.
Jesus talked about tiny faith moving mountains in Matthew 17:20, “And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.”
In my case as a preacher, I need to have faith to move the heart of men and women toward Jesus.
How often do we measure a project and conclude, “This is too big for me?” Most of these things are not as big as a mountain. Therefore… Perhaps I do not have faith to move Mt. Everest, but then I may follow the line of William Faulkner when he wrote:
“The man who removes a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.”
People with a race horse personality require a lot of faith to slowly move a mountain one stone at a time. Faith teaches the point is to move the mountain.
