LLLV17 5-1-2017 Don’t Look Back Norman Rockwell
The first day of May! PTL! Sounds great to me. May the Lord Jesus Christ bring back springtime to our hearts, may we warm and tender be again! An old song asks for such and I certainly give a resounding Amen.
Living for a long time is a longing in many hearts. Norman Rockwell commented on the longevity of artists in statement that may help us all:
“The secret to so many artists living so long is that every painting is a new adventure. So, you see, they're always looking ahead to something new and exciting. The secret is not to look back.” Norman Rockwell.
Other noted artists have penned similar lines, such as; each day is a blank canvas and we must learn to patiently paint a masterpiece upon it. Adding, “with Christ’s help” would be appropriate for the Christian.
New adventure is a powerful motivator for upward mobile souls, of which there are many in our country and it is proper to say the Bible points toward the higher ground of achievement by admonishing us to, as Paul wrote:
“Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-14. (NKJV).
Unlike an artist, we do not have the privilege of re-painting yesterday’s canvas. Thankfully we get a new one each day! Unlike many artists who are too poor to start with a new canvas each day, God is rich in mercy and day long canvas to abundantly supply the necessities of new material every day. He will not even think of leaving a blank canvas from yesterday in our studio. We must start with the new every day.
Many people, Christians and not, tend to spend too much of life attempting to redo yesterday. Lot’s wife attempted the same and ended totally wasted, as pillar of salt. The point is to move on from what was and see today as a New Adventure, one in which the Holy Spirit will guide us to a grand, exciting masterpiece of living in the full joy of walking in the garden of life beside Jesus.
