5-21-13 Nature’s Masterpiece: Friend
Over the years I have discovered the value of true friends. I even wrote a book about the beauty of friends. (Now out of print). One of the problems with friends is that you never know who true friends are until you really need one. And then…
You are old enough to read so you have already experienced the heart rending discovery stated by some wag, “Your friends are false, but your enemies are real.” So true.
We should not be discouraged by the manner in which friendship is tested, for the formula is widely known, but we play the part of a head in the sand Ostrich. Note this concerning friends.
“A friend may well be reckoned the masterpiece of nature.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
Jesus gave the divine bellwether concerning true friendship in John 15:13, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.
15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.”
Briefly, friends give, and receive, the deepest philos, love, for each other, obey the needs of their friends, and share deepest secrets. It’s not rocket science to see the necessity of choosing friends with fervent prayer saturated wisdom.
