When Thomas Jefferson was asked about sources that inspired the Declaration of Independence, he answered, “Pure Locke.” He was referring to the writings of John Locke, now a little known champion of liberty.
Notice this statement concerning the Bible from John Locke, "The BIBLE is one of the greatest blessings bestowed by GOD on the children of men -- It has GOD for its Author, Salvation for its end, and Truth without any mixture for its matter. It is all pure, all sincere; nothing too much; nothing wanting"
Locke had started well in the Christian life, he then went through a period of doubt, and then later in life progressed toward a settled faith in God through a rigorous study of God’s Word, thus his moving statement about the Bible.
It’s no accident that the Bible is the nourisher of faith as stated in Romans 10:17, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” This verse is the seed plot for today’s unbeliever as well as those who appear to be settled in faith. Experience teaches that God is forever leading us into new situations that call for faith. This needed faith is communicated to us via a new reading of the Word or a call to remembrance of prior biblical information. Consider Abraham, Romans 4:20, “He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;”
