The Apostle Paul shares an excellent plan for growing into the extraordinary life as we walk along with Jesus on this journey we call life.
Philippians 3:13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,
14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
The plan is simple: Don’t kid yourself into buying the false idea that has arrived, get over the failures of “yesterday” and work your plan today for future success. Do this with enthusiasm, (press) following the upward pull of Christ. The errors of life can and should be a measure by which we recognize areas that need some work. Augustine stated:
“That is the true perfection of man, to find out his imperfections.”
If we are seriously discovering our flaws, we find many, but we must not despair, but take these flaws before the Lord, study the Word and trust the Spirit of God to help us to learn the procedure for overcoming them. Along the way, we learn to work on the strengths the Lord has entrusted to us. Here’s a good example; Payton Manning never practiced at Outside Linebacker. Paul said, “This ONE thing.”
Here’s another great truth that I wish every person who gets on a platform in Christian service would memorize:
“Spectacular performances are preceded by spectacular preparation.”
Paul’s advice to Timothy carries a world of help:
2 Timothy 2:15 “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
