Most people like to read about the “Charge up San Juan Hill” led by Teddy Roosevelt and are also touched by his pithy sayings. Most do not realize he was what is today called, “Progressive.”
Teddy, being the ultimate self-sufficient apostle did something that is being tried again in our country by some who call themselves Progressive. In 1908 President Roosevelt had coins printed without the logo, “In God We Trust.” The public outcry reached the high heaven and the coins were recalled and appropriately stamped. I remind my fellow Christian Americans of this simply to point out that the plan to kick God out of public life is not new, but it is gaining ground as vast numbers of people carrying a Bible have adapted the malaise of the time and shrug their shoulders muttering, “Who cares?”
That Teddy was out of step with his contemporary counterparts is glaring in this statement, which is biblical, “No man should receive a dollar unless that dollar has been fairly earned.”
Our European counter parts have long since departed from even lip service to “In God We Trust” and are on the verge, some past, of bankruptcy. A spiritually bankrupt society will eventually be bankrupt materially. Teddy missed the boat on obligatory votes.
2 Thessalonians 3:10, “For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.”
