In the Christian life, being two spirited is simply the failure to surrender to the Spirit of God consistently. You are spirit minded one minute and carnal minded the next. An old Irish saying has it, “In again out again Finnegan.” Peter tells about such a man in 2 Peter 2:7: And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:
8 (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;) Underlining mine.
According to Strong’s Concordance vexed is from basinizo in the Greek, which in Spanish is Bastinados. The Greek and Spanish meaning is torture. The kind of vexation, misery a two spirited man suffers is mental, spiritual and emotional torture as sure as Torquemada’s torture chambers of the Spanish Inquisition.
Learn that when the preacher is encouraging you, as did Joshua, to “make up your mind” he really is giving you the secret to inner peace and deliverance from very real inner torture.
