LLLV19 11-7-2019 Hope When Hope Seems Hopeless
Lewis Smedes writes,
“Waiting is our destiny as creatures who cannot by themselves bring about what they hope for.
We wait in the darkness for a flame we cannot light,
We wait in fear for a happy ending we cannot write.
We wait for a not yet that feels like a not ever.
Waiting is the hardest work of hope.”
Yet, we are assured Hope Springs Eternal. This is true if we have our hope in the Author of our faith; Jesus Christ.
The life of faith is marked by the ability to hope when to hope appears to be hopeless as with Abraham in Romans 4:18a “who contrary to hope, in hope believed..”
It’s said that we are living in “a hopeless generation.” This should not be true of Christians who are possessed of hope since Jesus came into our heart!
