05-06-13 Henry Ward Beecher’s Bible Map for Life
The thought starters for this week are based on statements by men on the truth of the Bible relative to daily living and at least one on World History. We should know that God is the writer of the true pre-history of the world and our daily living must be within His guidelines to be a positive force.
Henry Ward Beecher said, “The Bible is God’s chart for you steer by, to keep you from the bottom of the sea, and to show you where the harbor is, and how to reach it without running on rocks and bars.”
Dr. Beecher made it plain that following the Life Navigation rules laid out in the Bible will keep you on top of the sea, and direct you to the safe harbor while keeping you from rocks and sand bars. This is a poetic way of saying to avoid shipwreck, trust the Bible and use it as the infallible guide for life’s journey.
A shipwrecked life or project can and must be avoided by sticking to the Bible, 1 Timothy 1:19, “Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:” In verse 18 Paul referred to earlier prophecies, (scriptures) which two men, Hymenaeus and Alexander, had departed from in such a manner that Paul had turned them over to Satan. A departure from biblical revelation sets you on a treacherous, uncharted course ending in destruction.
