Harvey and Irma, Not Texas or Flordia

PictureHarvey and Irma Schluter
“You just do whatever you think would be the best thing to do. If you can help someone, then help them.” Irma Schluter, 92 years of age!

Irma is married to Harvey Schluter. Harvey is 104 years of age! They have been married for 75 years!

Over the years Irma stayed busy taking in Foster and Special needs children. Harvey ran his own Barbershop for 45 years! She got into the business of caring for Foster children due to being bored while Harvey cut hair. Records show that the Schluter’s cared for 120 Children!

While watching hurricanes Harvey and Irma, Irma Schluter stated;

“Really sad, I have no idea what I’d do. I’ve never been in that kind of a situation. I’d try and help some people, I don’t know how.”

Americans: you gotta love ‘em!

It could be that Harvey and Irma could write a book on the value of a stormy marriage over 75 years, but their current photo shows no sign of a hurricane marriage. One reason could be that as a U.S. Army veteran, Harvey learned early the proper way to receive and implement orders.

Harvey and Irma present a large part of the American Dream. Love, happy marriage, own their own business, and find ways to express care for those who need it most. We seem to have misplaced these parts of the dream. Are we are experiencing the chaos of what ensues when dreams turn to nightmares? Could be.

I hope they write a book that shares their story. We may gather some inspiration from James 1:27 “Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.”
