Graham, King and Shaw on Dreams

PictureJet Breaking Sound Barrier Once a dream!
In today’s market dreams are big sellers. You’ve heard many of the dream mantras, “If you can dream it, you can do it!” Yippee! Another one is a speech by Dr. King. I heard the finished version and think any speaker should listen and learn from that great speech “I Have a Dream.” You can read the mechanism used by King here: http://kingencyclopedia.stanford.edu/encyclopedia/encyclopedia/enc_i_have_a_dream_28_august_1963/

The passage in the Bible is found in two places, one being the prophecy and the other the fulfillment of said prophecy. I speak of this gripping reality for this era of history:

Acts 2:17 “And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams.”

Peter was quoting Joel 2:28 and this is a big thing for the people of the Lord for as we have witnessed when the dream dies, the person, the people, the nation die to the degree that the dream has withered. Edmond Mbiaka puts a finger on the problem with dreams alone.

“Too many people are quick to dream big, but slow to act on it.”

Dreams are not realized by dreaming alone. Noting the dreams of God Peter mentioned in Acts 2:17, demonstrates inspired action! You have a dream? Great. What will you do?

Former president Calvin Coolidge said, “Press on: Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent.
Genius will not; Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.
Persistence and determination alone are overwhelmingly powerful.”

One of my favorite quotes about the power, actually the necessity of a powerful dream, has been attributed primarily to Robert Kennedy. However, the earliest version I have found comes from the prodigious pen of George Bernard Shaw.

“You see things; and you say 'Why?' But I dream things that never were; and I say 'Why not?’”

In the South a farmer, friends called him Frank, had a little farm, worked it with diligence and trained his children in the lore of hard work and clean living. He was known in the county. His dream was to touch people for Jesus. He did what he could. One evening his teen son went forward in the revival meeting. Folks were happy that Frank’s boy got saved. Little did they realize the full implications associated with the conversion of Frank’s boy. Even ordinary, well worked dreams may grow in into gigantic ones over time. Ever hear of Franks boy, William Franklin Graham Jr? You may know him as Billy. Keep on dreaming, with action.
