God's Promise to Simeon!

A Short Time With Larry 12-22-2020 Simeon

Many names and titles are associated with the Nativity, not the least is Simeon. I don’t think he is mentioned anywhere else in scripture, but this makes a difference. It was revealed to Simeon that he would see the Messiah before his death. The full account is in Luke 2:25-35.

Simeon was faithful in Temple attendance; he waited for Christ’s coming; he accepted God’s revelation. Last, but not least, the Holy Spirit was upon him!

His brief speech is a wonder of thankfulness. It also lets the listeners know that the Messiah is for all peoples, including Gentiles. And this in the temple. He closed with a painful truth:

Christ would be divisive, would suffer, and a sword would hurt those who love Jesus.

Today’s Christians often believe if they walk with the Lord, they will be spared any suffering.

Simeon puts that idea to bed.

Larry Lilly, make today count.
