While musing on the literary offering from yesterday a phrase from the verse in Philippians forced its way into the mass of oatmeal like tissue I use for a brain. I am underlining the noted parts:
Philippians 2:8 “And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”
Todays’ point is not about death or the cross but about the first fruit of true biblically based humility. This truth is the absolute measure of true humility.
Simple? Yes. Oft practiced? Ha.
Here is the question that should trigger your level of humility gauge:
How far will you go in your obedience to God’s known will in your life?
Being willing, really willing to submit to death by crucifixion is one test.
Asking for forgiveness to those who are the perpetrators is another.
Over the years many have demonstrated a false humility with lowered gaze and a poor me bearing, yet the bulk of their daily living was in outright rebellion to Gods’ Word.
Humility will be revealed in a desire to accomplish the will of Christ for you on earth regardless of the price or suffering.
“As long as you are proud you cannot know God. A proud man is always looking down on thing and people: and, of course, as long as you are looking down you cannot see something that is above you.” C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity.
