While having lunch the other day with a co-worker, the manager of the restaurant stopped by the table and talked a while. She had been present at my presentation of a part of our prison ministry and mentioned that she knew one of the prisoners in the collage. He had visited bus routes etc. with her husband and in a heated moment had committed murder. I gave her some follow-up information that seemed to comfort her a little.
The man in question had never had any run-in with the law, even to a traffic ticket. And then… The prisoner is part of our team we are training in a Max Prison to serve Christ effectively. When I spoke with him a few weeks ago, he said to me: “Larry, I still find myself thinking, ‘I am in a dream, this cannot be real.’”
I have not committed murder, but I do have a few “heated moments” that, when I think of them, I too, think, “I was dreaming, this could not have happened.” The thought itself is haunting, surreal and destructive if you build a dwelling there.
The underlying theme of all the ministries the Lord Jesus has entrusted to me is Reaching, Raising and Restoring. I find that these three thoughts have helped me to accept the work of Christ on my behalf and serve Him with zeal.
Psalms 25:18 Look upon mine affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sins.
