Nearly 45 years ago I was making a hospital call at St. Vincent’s Hospital on the north side of Indianapolis. As I entered the elevator area my attention became fixed on a helpful direction plaque. Here are the directions:
“Take the elevator to the second floor, turn right. Go to the cross. You can get where you need to go from there.”
Recently a man said to me:
“Larry, I don’t want to be bothered with the cross, I just want to talk about the resurrection.”
Now think about that statement for a moment.
If you eliminate the cross, how can you have a resurrection?
One theologian of international note stated, “The preaching of a bloody cross is simply “Slaughter House Religion.”
Many hymnals in my lifetime have done away with any mention of an Old Rugged Cross.
May I say the cross and the resurrection go together. You can’t have one without the other!
