David Ben-Gurion on Courage

LLLV17 7-31-2017 David Ben-Gurion on Courage

Courage is a wonderful word and an even greater possession. When you have courage, even when you must be encouraged, meaning having courage placed into you either by words that encourage or the courage of strongly held convictions, you are ready to stand up for what’s right, for what you believe, even to giving your life.

Concerning courage, David Ben-Gurion once said,

"Courage is a special kind of knowledge, the knowledge of how to fear what ought to be feared and how not to fear what ought not to be feared. From this knowledge comes an inner strength that inspires us to push on in the face of great difficulty. What can seem impossible is often possible with courage."

It has been said of some people throughout history and a few in our time that they “do not fear God or man.” This statement if true can get you into a mountain of trouble. It’s clear that having a biblical grasp of the proper fear of God will lead to a closer walk with Jesus.

Think about it! As Ben Gurion said, “to push on in the face of great difficulty.” Note how God effectively put courage into Joshua’s heart with this statement:

Joshua 1:9 "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go."

God had given this eighty-year-old man a job, one that most eighty-year old men could not accomplish in their own strength. Joshua was enabled to go ahead and do the impossible due to his firm trust in God’s ability to put divine strength into him.

The word dismay means to be paralyzed with fear, unable to act. Courage to believe God means to obey and leave the consequences to Him.
