LLLV18 12-6-2018 Christmas Time for the Suspension of Nature
Preachers, Bible Teachers, and religious writers are all put to the test to define the greatest miracle about Jesus Christ. In trying to explain the greatest you are confronted with several miracles. Miracles are by definition the suspension of the way things work naturally.
To select a few, Christ is identified as Creator, The Son of God, (The only one of the “kind”), The visible express image of the invisible God, Born of a Virgin, The Savior who takes away the sin of the world and the preeminent one Risen from the Dead, alive for evermore. These mentioned are part of the whole, if one is removed, the entire folds like a deck of cards in a windstorm.
This month we, as custom demands, celebrate the miraculous birth of the Babe born in Bethlehem, wrapped in swaddling clothes, announced by an Angelic Host, adored by shepherds, confirmed by His Star, and paid homage by Kings from the East.
His name, announced by Gabriel, shrouds Him, earth and heavens in deep mystery in this exchange with Joseph, the stepfather of Jesus:
Mt 1:21 "And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins."
22 So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying:
23 "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which is translated, "God with us." (NKJV).
Modern and the minds of antiquity struggled with three truths: The overshadowing of Mary by the Holy Ghost. The saving of His people from their sins. The fact that somehow He, the Babe, is Immanuel, meaning God with us!
If you are searching for the natural in all of this, save your time. Everything about Jesus challenges nature. But then, He created nature. Therefore the Creator maintains rights to enact that which is above the natural.
Jesus Christ is God’s perfect gift to an imperfect world. At Christmas, we give good gifts to imperfect people. If we bought gifts for perfect people, we would save tons of bucks.
