04-24-13 Choose the Correct Weapon
While reading an obituary giving a thumbnail sketch of a good man’s life, I noted this bit: “After completing desert training, he deployed to the South Pacific jungles, where he saw combat in New Guinea and Luzon.”
Do you see what brought a chuckle to my heart?
He trained for desert warfare and then was sent to fight in the jungle. Different types of warfare to say the least. Somehow we won the war. Some would say miraculously.
How often we forget the truth of God’s training program for victorious living and use “world” principles instead of the powerful weapons of the spirit. We try to overcome the world by using the weapons, tactics and strategy of the world around us instead of following the instructions in our Manual for Victory, the Bible. Notice 2 Corinthians 10:4, (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;).
Paul emphatically teaches that we are a different type, as Christians, we have a different mode of battle. It is when we take up the weapons of the surrounding culture that we fail. While Paul does not mention the approved weapons here, he lists most of them in 2 Corinthians 6:2-10. These are the weapons used by the Spirit of God. They are tried and true over the ages and are in the Christian arsenal for all God’s children to take up and use.
