As I reflected on my reflection in the mirror the other morning, I thought of a statement a satisfied and wealthy man made some time ago. It is thought that satisfied and wealthy are seldom mentioned about the same person. Here is the man’s statement and my take on it.
“For the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: 'If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?' And whenever the answer has been 'No' for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.” Steve Jobs
I really don’t know much about the spirituality of Mr. Jobs, but I do know his statement is firmly rooted in biblical common sense. He knew the truth of the mind/spirit stultifying practice of “going to work to get the money to buy the bread to get the strength to go to work to…” Here are a few questions that may help you along the way.
1. Do you have the courage to honestly ask and answer the question in reference to you?
2. Do you have the courage to identify the “what” you need to change?
3. Do you have the courage, having identified the “what,” to actually make the change?
Psalms 31:24, “Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD.”
