The ancient Roman letter-writer Seneca answered a friend’s complaining letter thus:
"Are you surprised, that after such long travel and so many changes of scene you have not been able to shake off the gloom and heaviness of your mind?
You need a change of soul rather than a change of climate . . . . Do you ask why such flight does not help you?
It is because you flee along with yourself.”
Most people understand the truth that what’s going on inside of you is more important than events or location. Paul covered the idea of happiness being someplace else with this in
Philippians 4:1; “Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content.
“If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.”
