Many of you my dear readers know that I have had a few run ins with our country, and I lost every time. Yet I still believe, with good reason, that our red, white and blue are the grandest colors on planet Earth. I would never run around apologizing for our land of brave and free people.
One of my favorite heroes was Audie Murphy. I read his book and then saw the movie based on his life story called To Hell and Back when I was young and have never forgotten it. Audie was the most decorated veteran of WWII before he was 21 years old. He was killed in a plane crash on what is now Liberty Mountain (Liberty University) in 1971. Each time I landed in Lynchburg I would always look over to the spot.
Audie described America this way:
“The true meaning of America, you ask? It’s in a Texas rodeo, in a policeman’s badge, in the sound of laughing children, in a political rally, in a newspaper…In all these things, and many more, you’ll find America. In all these things, you’ll find freedom. And freedom is what America means to the world.”
With all the rancor we hear daily, and with high ranking people giving up on America, I pray for a revival of true love for the land entrusted to us by the Lord Christ. It’s not out of the question.
