Joyce and I are celebrating our 50th Wedding Anniversary this year (August 29, 2014). We have made a year of it and we should reach this milestone in four days! We have done several things that have brought joy to our hearts.
In order to reach what many consider the bellwether of a good marriage we needed miracles from day one. And God gave the needed ones to us. One miracle is the need to live a long time while remaining in reasonable health physically, mentally, and most of all spiritually. We have made the spiritual part pretty well.
As to the old part, I am enjoying several years beyond the biblical threescore and ten, and should go on for many more. I am thankful for this. In his book, Nearing Home, Billy Graham gives a classic answer to the benefits of aging with this story of a reporter interviewing a 104 year old woman.
The reporter asked, “What is the best thing about being 104” She replied, “No peer pressure.”
I agree with this, Sister. So does the child bride of my youth.
Life has absolutes and learning and applying them is conducive to longevity of life and family. The scripture lists them and Jesus affirmed them. Check them out.
Deuteronomy 32:7 Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations: ask thy father, and he will shew thee; thy elders, and they will tell thee.
