Larry Lilly's Letter 8-2-12
I often use adages, some of them very old as is todays'.
"In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king".
The idea behind this is simple in that what gifts we have are to be a great blessing based on the principle of servant leadership. In a land of the blind a one eyed person could serve the sight challenged magnificently.
The adage is attributed to Desiderius Erasmus Roterodamus (October 28,[1] 1466? To say that Erasmus was interesting is understatement and though he is revered by many for his development of the widely used Textus Receptus most know little or nothing about him or the body of his work. He probably impacted the entire world more than anyone of his time.
My purpose today has little to do with Erasmus other than point out the truth of his adage, "In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king." It's true and we should learn to make this work for our life of serving Christ.
Somewhere today there is/will be someone who desperately needs what you can do for them. Rather than whining because of this persons infringement on your plan, invest your gift in their life via your expertise be it at the brain surgeon level or a simple listening to their tale of woe while demonstrating a caring heart.
1 Peter 5:7 "Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you."
