One of my favorite songs has to do with the change that is wrought by the touch of the Master’s Hand. I'm sure you have heard the song or the recitation, concerning the Old Violin. The song says, “What a wonderful change in my life has been wrought since Jesus came into my heart.” And it’s true! When Christ enters our life, life itself changes and this works out the necessary changes in style, attitude and world view to live quiet and peaceable lives at home, and thus in public. Too many are the souls who show well in public while the home life is a touch of hell on earth.
As we travel along singing whatever song, we soon enough learn that there are some things, even people, that we do not have the power to change.
In his Serenity Prayer Reinhold Niebuhr said,
“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”
Knowing the difference takes at least a lifetime to figure out. One thing to hold close to our heart is the truth, “without Christ we can change nothing. And without Christ most of us do not want to change.”
Take a look at 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
