Our church sign tells the passersby, that “Jesus is the reason for all seasons.” I like this idea. Jesus Christ came into the world to save His people from sins. The scripture is plain on this truth. He also came as He stated here in contrast to Satan’s purpose: John 10:10 "The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” Most are missing the “Abundant” as Mel Branham says,
“Most people are not doing what they can, but what they will.”
When you think about it, the truth of the statement hits like a sledgehammer. All of us could be better at what we do, if we really got serious about what we do. At the height of his fabulous career, Ignace Paderewski commented,
“I am nothing! If you could know the dream of what I would like to be, you would realize how little I have accomplished.”
Couple this statement with another Paderewski line, “I owe my success in one per cent to my talent, in ten per cent to luck, and in ninety per cent to hard word. Work, work, and more work is the secret to success.” And now you have the meaning of Mel’s statement.
We settle for what we will, not for what we could be and do. A lady once commented to Paderewski “I would give anything if I could play like you.” The master replied, “No, no you wouldn’t, for if you would give all to it, you could.” The bulk of us in any profession, or even calling, really dabble at it more than making a 90 percent effort at it.
51 years ago I married a gorgeous blonde haired girl. As the Lord would have it, I discovered her to also be very bright. You can imagine my torment over these years. The other day the dream girl of my life posited, “Larry, if Jesus were to ask all us of one life changing question, what would He ask?” That was it, no prodding as to what, or even what her idea was. A man who has been married to the same woman for 51 years has learned, through often bitter experience, the danger of thinking that any question is unloaded. So, after much prayer and careful thought I shared my thought with the Brilliant Blonde. Jesus would ask,
“Do you have any idea what I would enable you to accomplish, if you gave me the time?”
Wow. Even if it is my thought. With Christ as an add-on, we really don’t give Him much of our quality time. He is the one we need. Emerson hinted at this when he wrote: “Our chief want in life is somebody who shall make us do what we can.” So, what you can be or what you will be?
