I note pithy sayings over the months leading up to Christmas time. This is harder than you may think, as most of the really good ones are worn out. However, the Lord of Quotes put this in front of my face:
“Two things upon this changing earth can neither change nor end; the splendor of Christ's humble birth, the love of friend for friend.” Author Unknown.
The artist attempting to capture and paint the glory of the Incarnation fail due to the question; how do you paint glory and humility on the same canvas? The encouraging truth is that whichever is chosen is sure to give some idea of the splendor of Divine glory or Divine humility. I lean to the manger scenes, with humble outcast shepherds coming to worship Jesus Christ. This could be because I know experientially the role of outcast.
And Jesus is known as a friend as stated in Proverbs 18:24 “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”
In my book “Lasting Friendship In 30 Days,” lasting friendships are identified by two essential facts. We are liked because of who and what we are, and in spite of who and what we are not.
Hebrews 2:11 “For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,”
