Walls: The Pope, Trump and Jesus! Larry Lilly EXTRA!
LLLV16 2-19-2016 EXTRA Edition About Walls, The Pope, Trump and Jesus
Rev 21:12 Also she had a great and high wall with twelve gates, and twelve angels at the gates, and names written on them, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:
Rev 21:14 Now the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
Rev 21:18 The construction of its wall was of jasper; and the city was pure gold, like clear glass.
Rev 21:19 The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with all kinds of precious stones: the first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald,
Rev 21:27 But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb's Book of Life.
Rev 22:14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.
Taking the above verses in context, that each one is connected to the others, and it is obvious the subject is a wall, and each gives description of varied materials or other facts about the wall we can draw some conclusion about the purpose of the wall. I must say the city and the wall as portrayed is stunning in its opulence.
The names of Twelve Tribes of Israel as well as the names of the Twelve Apostles are on the foundations of the city.
As we get our eyes focused on the glory of the city we get an idea, an idea that is foreign to many today, even scholars who know that aside from its striking beauty, a primary function of the wall is to keep certain people out! Rev 21:27 makes this glaringly plain: Rev. 21:27 “But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb's Book of Life.”
In order to enter, the one who desires to go in must meet certain criteria: Their name must be written in the Lamb’s Book of Life, i.e., be born again via faith in Jesus. This means by any manner of use of the language, that the wall is exclusionary in purpose. It keeps out those who are undocumented. All who are properly documented enter at will. Certain “rights” to the tree of life, belong only to those who have birthrights to the city, thus the conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus comes into play as made plain in John 3:3 “Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."
That the wall is attractive beyond description is a given, that people want to go through the gates is understandable. But, that the entry criteria will be enforced in undeniable. You must be born into God’s family by what is called being born again by Jesus.
That all religions, even the Pope’s and Mr. Trump’s, have walls is obvious from their written doctrines.
Roman Catholicism is adamant that if a person is not sprinkled by a Roman Priest that person cannot partake of Holy Communion and due the supposed salvatory nature of the cup and bread, that person cannot enter the city John saw coming down. Thus the Pope’s religion excludes all undocumented peoples via the use of the wall around the city.
The way to become documented is plain throughout the scriptures, the simplest one being taught with emphasis here:
Acts 16:30 “And he brought them out and said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
31 So they said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household."
Christ is the bridge, as He made plain here:
John 10:9 "I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.”
To make the application in the controversy between the Pope and Trump, keeping in mind that both men have “walls” of protection around them to keep people out, The Vatican Walls are 48 feet high.
Our nation has the responsibility to keep undocumented people out until they follow the procedure established by law to enter.
It’s interesting that many of the politicos who argue to tear down our walls live in Gated Communities or Estates designed to keep them safe and the peasants out.
I am glad the king and beggar can meet at the cross of Jesus and become citizens of the great city.
Philippians 3:20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
